You may have seen recent headlines ‘Injury claim referral fees to be banned’ with the government clamping down on insurance companies who sell personal injury fees to lawyers. Lawyers who see no wrong in obtaining personal information in this way and simply regard such ‘referral fees’ to be part of their every day marketing strategy.

Plaguing us with annoying texts such as “It’s not too late, text now to claim £3,750 as a result of your injury”

In the same way, the world of Residential and Commercial Property and conveyancing is littered with referral fees.  Referral’s which are not based on quality of service, or indeed value for money, but simply on the size of the referral payment an estate agent will receive from the lawyer they refer work to.

So when you are buying or selling a property, be VERY wary of an estate agent who says to you “the transaction will go through so much quicker if you use our recommended solicitor’ and ‘if you use your family solicitor the process could be really delayed and you may even miss out!’

At Colchester solicitor Asher Prior Bates we do not believe such referrals are in the interests of the consumer.  We are instead proud to thrive on genuine recommendation and to offer clients a friendly and professional service with competitive prices.   Across all our services we believe in:

  • Transparency
  • Honesty
  • Attention to detail
  • Value for Money
