At Colchester based Solicitors Asher Prior Bates we like to find ways of saving our clients money.  If you were thinking about completing a Lasting Power of Attorney (to allow someone to be able to manage your affairs in the event that you are unable to do so yourself ) if the application to register the document is made before the 1st October 2011 you will save yourself £10. From this date the registration fee charged by the Office of the Public Guardian to register both Lasting and Enduring Powers of Attorney increases from £120 to £130.

A Lasting Power of Attorney must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before your attorneys can start acting for you. Due to the length of time it can take to complete the registration process (currently in the region of 3 months) it can be prudent to register a Lasting Power of Attorney once it has been completed, to avoid a long delay before you attorney can act for you if they ever need to.
